After successful MBO: healthy order books and figures well in the black for the hydroforming specialists “hde Solutions GmbH”

Menden, 22nd July 2003. There have been some difficult times for the venerable family business of “hde Metallwerk GmbH” of Menden in the Sauerland. In the autumn of 2002, the collapse of the semi-finished parts business brought about by the recession in the economy pushed the whole company into insolvency. But the four-man management of Managing Director Tom Graf continued to believe in the potential of the company. After all, this traditional company had been one of the first to make industrial use of hydroforming technology, establishing its innovation leadership over recent decades lastly under the Development Manager Stefan Geißler. There were also good prospects for hde in the business area of heat technology. These would have to be developed.

Water. It seems so innocent when flowing from a kitchen tap, but anyone who's ever dealt with the hysteria of a burst pipe recognizes its stunning power. Indeed, one of nature's most abundant and essential resources is also one of its most forceful.
Today, GM is harnessing the force of water to shape metal. The concept, called hydroforming, holds tremendous potential for the future of automotive design and manufacturing.

What goes around comes around…
Hydroforming has been around for about a century, but only recently has it been tapped for automotive uses. Long ago, metalworkers crafted items such as doorknobs, plumbing fixtures and musical instruments using hydroforming techniques.

  France Hydroforming News
61 Reads

Laser-robots are flexible devices for processing in the automobile industry. The integration of lasers and robots is an important element in the growing technology of hydroforming.

Five years ago there was minimal use of hydroforming by the automotive industry. Today, automotive chassis and component designers are introducing hydroformed members into their vehicles at such a rate that the market is doubling every two years. And the reasons are clear; hydroformed parts reduce weight, lower costs and provide a far higher-quality structure than conventional stamped and welded assemblies.
