All Topics THE MOST POWERFUL VARIANT OF HYDROFORMING

Markus Erras, Siempelkamp Pressen Systeme, Krefeld
Summary

In the following, the author introduces a sheet metal hydroforming press system which Siempelkamp Pressen Systeme, Krefeld delivered to the University of Dortmund, Faculty Of Mechanical Engineering, under Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Kleiner. Successful commissioning of this customized hydraulic press was completed in December 2001.

The basic design concept and the major press components - i.e. hydraulics, mechanics and controls - are presented along with some of the major technical data and the design principle. Selected characteristics of the machine are also explained in detail.

1. The Sheet Metal Hydroforming Press

Supported by the DFG (German Research Society) this customized machine was jointly developed by the University of Dortmund under Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Kleiner and the hydroforming pioneer Siempelkamp Pressen Systeme, Krefeld.
The machine is designed for the fluid based forming of sheet metal which is performed by the process variant known as Sheet metal hydroforming. The process sequence principle of sheet hydroforming and the machine is specifically designed to realize this process whilst also having the necessary data acquisition and control features demanded by a research institution.
Further explanations of the process sequence as well as some potential applications are detailed
